Ignacio M. Llorente

Ignacio M. Llorente is a Full Professor in Computer Architecture and Technology in the Computer Science Faculty at the Complutense University of Madrid,[1] where he leads the Distributed Systems Architecture Research Group.[2] Llorente graduated in Physics with a major in Computer Science in 1992 and obtained his Ph.D. in Physics with a speciality in Computer Science in 1995 at the Complutense University of Madrid and an Executive MBA in 2003 from IE Business School. He is an active researcher in computer systems with a specialization in parallel and high performance computer systems, grid computing, and cloud computing, having published papers in leading journals and proceedings books [3][4]

After finishing his Ph.D. on efficient execution of scientific applications on parallel computers,[5] he worked in scalability and efficiency of parallel algorithms on parallel systems under different scaling models.[6][7] Llorente was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997, and from 1997 to 2002, he also held several consultancy positions at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (NASA Langley Research Center).[8] During his work at NASA, he conducted research on enhanced multigrid methods[9] and their application to computational fluid dynamics,[10] and efficient and scalable parallel implementation.[11]

Since 2002, with the creation of the Distributed Systems Architecture Research Group, Llorente has led research and development efforts in large-scale distributed infrastructures, advanced virtualization technologies and distributed computing, and resource provision platforms in the context of several international contracts and research grants, such as RESERVOIR,[12] EU-funded research initiative in virtualized infrastructures and cloud computing. He has focused his research on architectures,[13] meta-scheduling [14] and benchmarking[15] for grid computing; and cloud computing architectures[16] and federation.[17] These efforts have resulted in several open-source innovative technologies, such as Globus GridWay[18] or OpenNebula.[19] In 2009 Llorente co-founded and co-chaired the OGF Working Group on Open Cloud Computing Interface,[20] and since 2009 he participates in the European Cloud Computing Group of Experts.[21]

From 2002 to 2007, he also held a Senior Researcher position in the Advanced Computing Lab at CAB (CSIC/INTA center associated to NASA Astrobiology Institute). In 2010, he co-founded C12G Labs, a cloud computing technology start-up.
